A 46-year-old man who was found dead with neck injuries in the second home of an acquaintance in Vienna-Margareten last week died of natural causes. The autopsy revealed that the man had suffered from previous illnesses which were the cause of his death. The injuries were also consistent with a fall caused by alcohol, police spokesman Markus Dittrich explained on Monday
The 53-year-old owner of the apartment wanted to check everything last Tuesday evening, but could not open the unlocked door because the key was in it. In addition, the 46-year-old, whom he had sheltered, did not respond to knocks on the apartment door or phone calls.
Man (46) lay lifeless in bed
The apartment owner then called the police, who had the fire brigade open the door. The 46-year-old lay lifeless in bed and, according to initial reports, had strangulation marks on his neck and a cut on a finger. Negligence by third parties could therefore not be ruled out for the time being.
