In a video address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the international community to impose “maximum” sanctions on Russia. There should be no more trade with the land. An oil embargo and sanctions against all Russian banks are also necessary.
“Ukraine needs all the weapons we demand, not just the weapons that have been delivered,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a video address on Monday. Western countries have repeatedly supplied his country with weapons and imposed sanctions on Russia since the start of the war, including a ban on Russian coal imports. There is still talk of an oil embargo.
In his speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual conference in Davos, the 44-year-old also thanked international aid so far. “The world believes in Ukraine.” But further measures are now needed, such as sanctions against all Russian banks. To be able to export much-needed food by ship, negotiations would also have to take place over access to blocked Ukrainian seaports.
“Will fight as long as we live
“The war will last as long as the world trades with Russia,” added Ukraine’s ex-world boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko. He even called for the complete isolation of Russia and the exclusion of Russian athletes from the Olympics. After all, they would represent the “aggressive regime of Russia”. According to Klitschko, Ukraine will not give up its resistance: “We will fight as long as we live.”
Nearly 2,500 people from politics, business and society will participate in the conference in the Swiss Alps until Thursday. In addition to the war in Ukraine, the corona pandemic and climate change are also on the agenda.
