As massive Israeli attacks on positions of the radical Islamist Hamas continued on Saturday evening, an American newspaper detailed which weapons and ammunition Washington had recently supplied to Israel. This reportedly included 100 BLU-109 bunker breaker bombs.
As the American newspaper “Wall Street Journal” reported, citing American officials, the delivery also included tens of thousands of additional weapons, 15,000 bombs and 57,000 artillery shells.
The US, which had supplied its key ally in the region with weapons and ammunition before the Gaza war began, had not previously disclosed the total number of weapons supplied to Israel or the bunker-busting bombs, the report said. The BLU-109 warhead is designed to accurately destroy bunkers and other deeply buried and heavily hardened targets such as tunnels.
