The fire brigade was called one by one to respond to accidents. The emergency services had their hands full.
The white splendor did not necessarily come as a surprise, but the snow still proved fatal for many motorists on the road.
In the Jennersdorf district, a truck driver unfamiliar with the area tried to deliver a load of pellets across the snow-covered “Steinriegel” in St. Martin an der Raab on Wednesday morning and got stuck on the freight road. The fire brigades St. Martin an der Raab-Ort, St. Martin an der Raab-Berg and Jennersdorf recovered the heavy vehicle. Fire brigade employees also helped the driver put on a second set of snow chains.
The rescue vehicle was unable to proceed any further
In the Güssing district, the Florianis suffered several traffic accidents on Wednesday evening. From 7 a.m. even more alarm signals started coming in. In Neustift near Güssing, two vehicles collided and a car slid into the ditch at the entrance to the town. In Kukmirn, a car crashed into a fence and the driver was taken to hospital as a precaution. In Tobaj, a package delivery person got stuck in the snow.
The Litzelsdorf fire brigade had to assist a rescue car in the morning hours, which could not reach the road via Winkel-Burgstall despite snow chains due to heavy snowfall. Accompanied by the Florianis, the journey took a different route and the patient eventually arrived home safely.
Several slightly injured
Near Stoob a car left the road and ended up on its side in the ditch. A similar picture emerged in the early morning hours for the Deutschkreutz-Girm fire brigade. When they arrived at the scene of the accident, the Florianis found a car on its roof in the ditch.
Further vehicle rescue actions were also on the agenda of the fire brigades of Oberpullendorf, Draßburg and Zurndorf.
By the afternoon the snowfall had subsided and the situation on the streets had eased again. According to the Burgenland State Safety Center, there were three minor injuries resulting from the accidents by noon.
