A firefighter jumped into Vienna’s Danube Canal on Sunday morning to rescue a dog from the water between the Salztor and Marien bridges. Three young men between the ages of 19 and 22 had also previously taken a night dive at the Salztor Bridge. The fire brigade was also present here.
However, when the fire brigade arrived shortly before 10:30 p.m., the three had already emerged from the water. According to Vienna’s professional rescue service, two boys were taken to hospital with mild hypothermia.
Dog back with owner
Hours later – on Sunday morning – the next operation took place. As spokesman Lukas Schauer reported, a firefighter wearing a life jacket and a rope swam to the dog flowing into the water around 8:30 a.m., grabbed the four-legged friend and was pulled back by his comrades to the shore in Leopoldstadt, where the animal was handed over to the owner.
