Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has invited US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping to the peace conference in Switzerland in June.
Zelensky addressed Biden and Xi in a video message on Sunday and asked them to support the peace conference with their personal participation.
The Ukraine peace conference will take place on June 15 and 16 near Lucerne on Lake Lucerne.
160 delegations invited
The Swiss government says it has invited 160 delegations, but Russia is not participating in the conference. According to Zelenskyj, more than 80 countries have now confirmed their participation.
The peace conference in Ukraine will be preceded by the summit of the seven most important industrial countries (G7) in neighboring Italy from June 13 to 15. There is therefore hope that many G7 heads of state and government, such as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), will personally participate in the deliberations in Switzerland. The G7 includes Germany, the US, France, Italy, Great Britain, Canada and Japan.
