On Sunday, police officers were deployed along the entire border between Mühlviertel and the Czech Republic against pyrotechnic smugglers. And there are two new ‘trends’ this year: fewer trips for illegal shopping and hardly any rockets and bullet bombs end up in the trunk.
“There was no bullet bomb today,” Markus Kreilmeier, operations manager of a pyrotechnic attack in the Mühlviertel along the border with the Czech Republic, reported to the “Krone” on Sunday evening. About forty police officers checked the major border posts in Weigetschlag and Wullowitz, as well as the smaller border crossings. Because when smugglers, aware of their wrongdoing, notice the checks, they often turn to the Czech side and try their luck outside.
Eight kilos of explosive force in the car
The final balance is still missing because the checks were carried out until 9 p.m., but it was clear that considerably fewer seizures of rockets and bullet bombs took place. The smugglers, who often do not know that they have illegal goods in their cars, use fireworks batteries or firecrackers. One driver had about eight kilos of fireworks in the trunk.
It is striking that there are considerably fewer “importers” on the road, probably because of the permanent and visible border controls with the Czech Republic against migrant smugglers.
