The recent drop in the number of corona cases in Austria is now also increasingly noticeable in the corona traffic light – this is now glowing yellow-green and yellow for Austria. On Wednesday, the traffic light commission classified the states of Lower Austria, Styria and Vorarlberg as low-risk. Burgenland, Carinthia, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Tyrol and Vienna were rated as medium risk, while Carinthia, Upper Austria and Vienna only slightly exceeded the average risk threshold.
According to the report, risk figures have fallen significantly in all states. Also the value of 50, under which one is in the “yellow zone”, was undermined by everyone. Tyrol has the highest value with 35.4, followed by Salzburg with 33.2.
The other numbers: Burgenland 30, Carinthia 26.8, Upper Austria 25.7, Vienna 25.6, Lower Austria 24.4 and Vorarlberg 21.3. For Austria as a whole, the risk figure was 22.6.
Seasonal effects dampen the rate of infection
According to the Commission, the development of the case is currently characterized by two diametrically opposed dynamics. Seasonal effects are currently depressing the infection rate. “It is possible that above-average temperatures in May were partly responsible for the recent drop,” the report said.
Immune protection gradually declines
On the other hand, the decline in immune protection gained through vaccination or recovery drives infections further. In the medium term it can be assumed that the second effect will dominate. However, the timing and strength of this effect could not be quantified precisely.
The current forecast assumes a further downward trend in most of Austria. Both slight increases and slight decreases are possible in the forecast interval. In addition, slightly fewer patients can be expected in hospitals.
