Modern cars collect an unprecedented amount of data. Manufacturers, insurers or renters can even highlight the character of the charioteer very precisely. And that can have unpleasant consequences.
On December 22, you clearly drank something late at night to quench your thirst – or perhaps smoked the wrong kind of cigarette? Clear sinuous lines, brisk acceleration, then crawling and two rough braking applications speak for themselves. And the fact that you chose to drive home on a dirt road at three in the morning instead of the main road doesn’t exactly show a sense of responsibility.
Such behavior could well cost the driver his lease contract, double the insurance or have the vehicle and driver’s license confiscated. And not in a dark science fiction future or like the surveillance states in the Far East, but in a very imaginable future. Car manufacturers have long held the key to examining the car’s state of mind – in the literal sense of the word.
