When the road is red, pedestrian (33) dies in a car accident in Vienna

A 33-year-old man died in a traffic accident on Schönbrunner Straße in Vienna-Meidling on Saturday night. The pedestrian is said to have crossed a protective path with a red light together with his 24-year-old companion. The two were then hit by a car. The man died on the spot from his injuries; the woman was seriously injured.

According to police, the pedestrian was walking with his companion on Schönbrunner Strasse when he wanted to cross a protective path. According to initial investigations, the pedestrians crossed the street at a red light, the 73-year-old driver was unable to brake in time and the fatal collision occurred.

Motorist had green light
The 33-year-old died on the spot from his serious injuries shortly after 3 a.m. According to police, the 24-year-old woman was seriously injured. Emergency services from the Vienna Professional Rescue Service provided emergency medical care to the victim and took him to a hospital. The driver of the car, which had a green light on its way into the city, was unharmed.

The Traffic Accident Command of the Vienna State Traffic Department took over the investigation into the accident. Further investigation is being conducted by the responsible police station.
