A tragic plane crash occurred in France on Sunday: a pilot was on his way to a children’s party in a small plane with a man dressed as Santa Claus when the plane crashed a kilometer from the airport. Both men died. The children who had been waiting for Sinterklaas to arrive were shocked.
The men involved in the accident, aged 68 and 79, were taking part in a flight for their local aviation club. The arrival of the man dressed as Santa Claus was supposed to be the highlight of a children’s party.
The deceased were experienced members of the flying club
But the planned surprise ultimately ended in tragedy. About two kilometers from Vichy-Charmeil airport, the small Robin DR400/180 plane crashed shortly after 3 p.m. in the town of Charmeil, as “La Montagne” reported – just one kilometer from the airport. The two men killed in the wreck were believed to be experienced members of the local flying club.
Traumatized children were cared for by rescuers
The children, aged between five and 13, who were looking forward to Santa’s arrival, were hit hard by the news of the crash. A member of the Vichy Airplane Club said the children were “in shock”. Emergency services cared for the traumatized children.
The cause of the accident has not yet been determined. The circumstances of the crash “remain to be clarified,” the prefecture said in a statement.
