The 51-year-old resident was carrying out renovation work on the artificially created “Icegate” waterfall in the Taschach Gorge on Wednesday afternoon. He was equipped with crampons and a hip belt. The alpinist, who was not secured at the time, fell for an unknown reason into a free fall of about twelve meters into the icy streambed of the Taschachbach around 3:30 p.m.
Flown to hospital by emergency helicopter
After receiving first aid from the Innerpitztal mountain rescue team, the seriously injured climber was flown to the clinic in Innsbruck by the emergency medical helicopter “Alpin 2”. Nothing is currently known about the man’s health.
