Israel says it has bombed positions of the Islamist Shiite Hezbollah militia in southern Lebanon. The military said a series of air and artillery strikes had taken place in a short period of time.
Israeli radio station Kan reported that it was an unusually large attack on dozens of targets in the Suluki Valley. Lebanese security sources said Hezbollah had used positions in the valley for rocket attacks on Israel.
The Israeli attacks were the most intensive bombings on a single location since the firefight on the Israel-Lebanese border intensified three months ago.
“Axis of resistance” against Israel
The Iran-backed Hezbollah is an ally of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, against which Israel has been waging war since the Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7. Like the Islamic Hamas in the Gaza Strip and the Houthi rebels in Yemen, it is part of the so-called ‘Axis of Resistance’, a network in the fight against Israel.
The Jewish state has been the proclaimed arch-enemy of the regime in Tehran since the Islamic Revolution in 1979, which led to the ouster of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and the end of the monarchy in Iran.
