In the current 2023/24 flu season, a vaccination program for adults with vaccinations from general practitioners against the prescription fee was implemented for the first time together with the federal, state and social security authorities. But: “As things stand now, the targeted vaccination rate of eleven percent will probably only be achieved in Burgenland,” ÖGK employee chairman Andreas Huss emphasized on Thursday.
The Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK) is already calling for improvements for the next vaccination campaign in the flu wave that has started.
Ten percent vaccination rate in Styria and Vienna
“In Styria and Vienna we will reach almost ten percent. To achieve our goals in the next flu season, we will probably have to strengthen vaccination institutions in companies and also offer vaccinations in pharmacies. “Concentrating vaccination purely on doctor’s offices clearly did not work well in all states,” Huss explains.
Deductible of 7 euros
He advocated permanent vaccination facilities with easy accessibility and an increase in vaccine quantities because sufficient vaccines were not available everywhere. Logistics also need to be improved and the deductible of seven euros must be reconsidered.
One million vaccine doses ordered
Last week, of the approximately one million vaccine doses ordered as part of the vaccination program, approximately 760,000 doses had been registered as vaccinated. This means that according to the ÖGK publication, a vaccination rate of 8.3 percent of the total population has been achieved. The weekly vaccination numbers are now at a low level. However, after the Christmas holidays there was an increase again to 13,850 flu vaccinations in the second calendar week of the year (week 1: 6132).
