A truck collided with a tram and overturned in Vienna-Donaustdt on Monday evening. According to Gerald Schimpf, spokesman for the Vienna Fire Department, the driver of the heavy vehicle was trapped. According to Wiener Linien, the accident took place shortly before 6:30 PM in the Langobardenstrasse – Trondheimgasse area. The tram on line 25 may have partially derailed.
The line was shortened between Floridsdorf and Kagran, and later to the Donauspital. According to Schimpf, the truck driver was freed from his predicament and handed over to the professional rescue service. The severity of his injuries was initially unclear.
The cause of the accident is now being determined
The tram and truck had to be separated before emergency services could reassemble the truck. Only then could the Bim be put back on the track. According to Wiener Linien, the cause of the accident was the subject of an investigation. It also remained unclear whether other people – such as passengers in the tram – were injured.
