After mutual military attacks, Iran and Pakistan now want to resume diplomatic relations. The ambassadors are expected to return on Friday. Moreover, Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amirabdollahian will visit Pakistan on January 29, it said in a statement.
Both parties had already taken a conciliatory tone on Friday and stated that they were willing to work together better. Pakistan’s government has withdrawn its ambassador from Tehran after an Iranian missile attack on extremists on its territory. The Iranian ambassador is also not allowed to return to Pakistan until further notice, it was said last week.
Militia allegedly have ties to Israel
As reported, Iran attacked a militia on Pakistani soil last Tuesday, which is also said to have ties to Israel. In response, the Pakistani army on Thursday shelled Baloch separatist positions in Iran. Each attack killed several people (see video above).
The border areas are characterized by ethnic unrest on both sides, but are also rich in natural resources. The relationship between the two countries has been difficult for years, sometimes due to religious differences. Iran sees itself as a protective power for the Shia faith of Islam, while Pakistan is predominantly Sunni.
