Human remains in the form of bones were found on Thursday morning in the immediate vicinity of the side entrance of the Karlskirche in Vienna. Authorities are now trying to determine which era the skeletons come from.
The bones were discovered during construction work around the new cycle path on Argentinierstrasse. According to the Knightly Order of the Cross, there was a cemetery here until 1784.
According to the order, the composer Antonio Vivaldi found his final resting place there. It remains to be clarified whether the skeletons are actually the remains of burials. Archaeologists have now taken up further research.
According to first, conservative estimates, the bones date from the early modern period (16th/17th century).
