Temperatures in Austria will rise slightly again in the coming days. According to the forecast from Geosphere Austria (formerly ZAMG), these are the effects of a winter high pressure influence from Saturday. It wasn’t until Friday evening that a cold front reached us from the Bregenzerwald to the Salzkammergut.
The end of the working week will initially be heralded from the morning hours with clouds, especially in the west and north, due to another area of disturbance. Initially, some fresh snow will only fall on Friday above about 1,300 to almost 2,000 meters above sea level. Individual brightenings are most likely in the far east and during the day in the far south. According to the forecast, a heavier band of precipitation from a cold front will reach the northern side of the Alps, from the Bregenzerwald to the Salzkammergut, by the evening.
The snowfall level drops below 1000 meters
In the mountains, partly stormy west to northwest wind gusts are first noticeable. On Saturday night these winds will blow strongly in some parts of the Tauern valleys and in the lowlands on the eastern edge of the Alps. The snowfall line drops to well below 1000 meters. The wind blows only weakly to moderately in many places during the day. Early temperatures are minus four to plus six degrees, daily maximum temperatures are six to twelve degrees.
Very sunny weather on Saturday
On Saturday, the remaining clouds from the night along the Alps will last until morning and then disappear. This means that very sunny weather could become widespread. On the eastern edge of the Alps and in the eastern plains the wind is still blowing strongly, in some places even strongly from the west-northwest. Otherwise, it is usually only weakly to moderately felt. In the morning it is minus four to plus five degrees, and during the day it is four to eleven degrees.
Up to minus 8 degrees possible in the morning
A pronounced high-pressure area will develop in Central Europe on Sunday. This means early fog will develop in the west and south, especially in the watershed areas. Everywhere else the sun shines all day long, apart from the high cloud fibers. A light wind is blowing. In the morning, people should prepare for temperatures of minus eight to minus two degrees, even lower in snow-covered valleys. During the day, maximum temperatures of four to eleven degrees can be measured.
Also cloudy weather at the beginning of the week
The new week continues with the influence of high pressure over the eastern Alpine region. Most of the morning fog and high fog fields will clear in the morning. Overall, Monday’s start will again be quite sunny and often cloudless. The wind from southerly directions increases moderately, especially in the east. The daily maximums are between three and eleven degrees.
Cloud fields over the western half of Austria
According to the current forecast, high pressure will continue to affect the eastern Alpine region on Tuesday. However, it will weaken from the west during the day. This means that high and medium cloud fields will appear over the western half of Austria until the evening. Further east the weather is quite sunny after the morning mist and high fog have cleared.
