Russia accuses Ukraine of attacking several fuel depots in the Russian city of Belgorod

The regional governor of the Russian city of Belgorod, Viacheslav Gladkov, on Friday accused the Ukrainian army of attacking a series of oil deposits in the city, located near the border between the two countries, before adding that the event was handled without casualties.

Although the governor reported in principle that at least one deposit was hit by “two helicopters of the armed forces of Ukraine that penetrated Russian territory at low altitudes”, according to his Telegram account, emergency services have confirmed at least two attacks that have caused fires in at least eight deposits of the Belgorodnefteprodukt storage park, which is affiliated with the Russian state energy company Rosneft.

“Eight fuel tanks are currently burning, all with a capacity of 2,000 cubic meters. There is a threat that the fire will continue to spread,” emergency sources told TASS. The park contains 27 tanks, 14 of which have a volume of 2,000 cubic meters.

The governor has assured that the attack will not affect the region’s fuel supply as authorities have begun aligning supply chains from the plant to the Gubkin base across the region, which will serve to meet the needs of their inhabitants for “a period of five to thirteen days”.

The event takes place two days after the city of Belgorod was the scene of several explosions at a weapons warehouse, the causes of which are unknown. For their part, the Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented, nor have they confirmed that they are behind an attack on the fuel warehouse.

Lavrov announces “progress” in negotiations

For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov assured this Friday during his official visit to India that some progress had been made in the negotiations on Ukraine’s neutral status, including a convergence of positions on the situation of the Donbas regions.

“These agreements must be completed (…), there is some progress in admitting that Ukraine is not part of a bloc,” assured the head of Russian diplomacy, adding that they have “found an understanding” about the situation in the disputed situation. Donbas region.

Russian troops withdraw from Kiev

Russian forces are withdrawing from the Kiev area and Chernigov province to the north, but communities on the outskirts of the capital, close to the front lines, still do not feel out of danger and do not have confidence in the negotiations.
