Wrongfully Imprisoned – AI Error: The Horror Prison Diary

Date:

Last year, a young Viennese man was wrongly – and under terrible conditions – imprisoned in a Serbian prison for almost two months. In the meantime he wrote a diary. Which he now wants to publish as a book.

David P’s drama creates excitement. As the “Krone” reported on Sunday in a detailed report, the young Viennese was wrongly identified by a police AI visual field recognition program in the spring of 2023 as the wanted boss of a money counterfeiting gang.

Which had fatal consequences for the 31-year-old: at the beginning of September – without his knowledge – an international arrest warrant was issued for him. He was eventually arrested on October 26 while traveling with his parents to their old homeland of Serbia.

The catering employee was then locked up in a ‘horror prison’ for almost two months. Under catastrophic conditions: in an ice-cold cell of eighteen square meters, with fifteen other men, most of them serious criminals. Murderers, terrorists.

“I sometimes thought I wouldn’t leave prison alive,” says David P.

“My head is full of fears”
To document his torment “and to distract myself from my terrible everyday life,” he began writing a diary during his captivity. A passage from it: “My head is full of fears. A fellow inmate suddenly attacked me for no reason and hit my Adam’s apple with his fist. I can no longer eat or drink, swallowing hurts terribly…”

The 31-year-old now wants to supplement his notes – “also for psychological processing” – “and perhaps publish them as a book soon”.
