Now the cow flies! In Sparta Royale, professional martial artists compete against each other in a boxing ring made of hay. Krone+ subscribers (secure our offer here quickly) will be part of the spectacular premiere of the event – the exclusive livestream starts here from 6 p.m.!
Everything has been arranged: a “royal” series of the domestic top organization Sparta CF starts its first round today in Vienna’s Ariana Hall in the 22nd district! Up to 1,000 martial arts fans are on site in a relatively ‘small’ setting as professional fighters fight each other for the first time in a hay ring at the premiere of Sparta Royale.
“No one gets anything for free”
“We have put together a very balanced battle card, nothing is given to anyone,” emphasizes matchmaker Renato Eni Kepi, who guided athletes from different parts of Austria, as well as Germany, the Czech Republic, etc. to the federal capital. For example, Ruslan Toktharov, who already fights in so-called underground leagues without time limits or rules. A duel is only decided by a knockout or submission of the opponent. Tough, brutal, bloody, definitely not for the faint of heart.
In Sparta Royale things are more civilized, even though it requires just as tough tactics. The fight takes place in three rounds of two minutes each according to boxing rules; the referees can optionally declare an additional bonus round to determine a clear winner. However, instead of boxing gloves, thinner MMA gloves are worn. Hard, crushing hits are guaranteed.
Sparta stands for show
“Fans of martial arts will definitely get their money’s worth,” promises organization founder Magomed “Mago” Ozniev. Important postscript: “Everything must be done in a fair, sporting manner!” The fact that Aleks “Austrian Bull” Mraovic, Khalid Ott, Daniel Matusic and Co. already verbally “fighting” with their opponents is part of the game. Big words, big show.
In any case, Sparta should be marketed more broadly. An MMA event last year in Vienna’s Stadthalle with almost 8,000 visitors showed that top-class fighting events can also reach a large, martial arts-loving community in Austria. This year a handful of ‘smaller’ royal evenings are planned, as well as (medium-sized) galas with several thousand visitors.
