Lawyer pushed out – Navalny’s mother was turned away from the morgue

Date:

The death of the most famous Kremlin critic, Alexey Navalny, was announced three days ago, but both family and lawyers are still denied access to his body. Navalny’s spokeswoman Kira Yarmysch said Monday morning that his mother and his defenders were denied access to the morgue.

A lawyer who had also demanded access to the morgue was literally pushed out. “The employees do not answer the question of whether Alexei’s body is there,” Kira Yarmysh explained on platform

In this message on X, Jarmysch reports on the incident in front of the morgue:

Navalny’s team suspects delaying tactics
Relatives and Navalny’s team have been calling on the Russian power apparatus for days to hand over the body. According to official information, ruler Vladimir Putin’s opponent died in the prison camp on Friday. The reasons for the death are still “undetermined,” Jarmysch said. Navalny’s team blames Putin for Navalny’s death and accuses authorities of delaying tactics.

The widow of Russian opposition leader Yulia Navalnaya was invited to the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels on Monday. The night before, she had posted on Instagram for the first time since her husband’s death – a photo of Navalny caressing her and saying “I love you”. Thousands of people expressed their courage in comments to Julia Navalnaya and wished her strength. As of Monday morning, the entry had been viewed more than half a million times.

Julia Navalnaya’s moving Instagram post:

Many show sadness despite the measures taken by the authorities
In Russia, Russians also openly expressed their grief – despite hundreds of arrests and police brutality. Many laid flowers and lit candles at official memorials to the victims of political violence. Authorities continued to try to destroy the spontaneous memorials, and flowers were put in garbage bags and taken away. Western ambassadors also laid flowers in Moscow opposite Lubyanka’s secret service headquarters and commemorated Navalny’s courageous defiance of Putin.

Putin remains silent about Navalny’s death
The Russian president, who wants to be re-elected in a month, has not yet commented on the death of his fiercest opponent. Russian authorities said Navalny, physically weakened after many days in repeated solitary confinement, collapsed on Friday while walking in the courtyard of his Siberian prison camp in freezing temperatures. According to the prison service, resuscitation attempts failed.
