30 years of “Styria” – “The song arose from a guilty conscience”

Date:

Thirty years ago, Gert Steinbäcker released ‘Styria’, a song that quickly became the unofficial anthem of the Green Mark. In an interview with “Krone”, the third STS recalls the creation of the song on this anniversary.

“Kron”: When and why did you actually start recording music as a solo artist?
Gert Steinbacker:
I can’t really say that anymore today. But of course my colleagues at STS were a bit lazier than me. In the best sense of the word, because they were always busy with other things. And I just kept writing music, and at one point there was so much that I made my first album. But it wasn’t until Günter quit STS eleven years ago that I started touring alone – and luckily that turned out very well.
