Arms production etc. – Military experts see Russia at an advantage

Date:

Military expert Markus Reisner currently sees Russian troops at an advantage in the war in Ukraine. He attributes this, among other things, to higher weapons production and more armed forces. “Ukraine is desperately trying to generate new resources to continue this war,” Reisner said Wednesday.

The Russian military has massively adapted and scaled up its military-industrial complex over the past two years. An estimated 3.5 to five million artillery shells are produced annually in Russia, says Reisner of the Austrian Armed Forces. Ukraine, on the other hand, has virtually no capacity and the European Union has not fulfilled its promise to deliver a million grenades by the end of the year. Moreover, the war opponent has now copied many of the innovations of the Ukrainian side.

“Resignation and despair” among soldiers
The military expert estimates that 400,000 Ukrainian forces are currently deployed to the front. Nearly 500,000 soldiers have been deployed on the Russian side. According to Reisner, approximately 500,000 military personnel have been killed or injured in the past two years (200,000 from Ukraine, 300,000 from Russia). He was referring to the U.S. military, which estimates that about 167,000 soldiers have been killed. That is slightly more than the number of inhabitants of Salzburg.

Regarding the mood among Ukrainian troops, Reisner said: “Right now there is resignation and despair if you look at Avdiivka (which was captured by Russian troops last week, mind you). At the same time, there seems to be no alternative to continuing to fight , because otherwise this would lead to destruction or to a remnant state without sea connections.

The invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. Hundreds of thousands of people have died since then. The war also sparked the third largest refugee movement of all time in Europe.
