During a walk in the Bärengraben in Rosental, a Carinthian becomes aware of cries for help and finds a 14-year-old in the forest who has entered the country illegally. The 61-year-old immediately sets the rescue chain in motion.
A hiker (61) from Faak am See became aware of calls for help from the forest in the Bärengraben in Rosenbach on Sunday. The man immediately went to investigate and came across a boy sitting in the woods with severe hypothermia. “He pointed to his knee and could no longer walk independently,” said a police officer.
Helicopter could not land
The hiker immediately made an emergency call. But the operation proved difficult because of the weather. The crew of the police helicopter Libelle 1 was unable to land due to the strong wind.
The Villach mountain rescue service was alerted due to the steep, snowy and wet terrain. “The injured man was strapped to a stretcher and taken out of the forest to an open area. There, the 14-year-old could be taken to the Klagenfurt clinic by defrosting the C 11,” the emergency services report.
The police are investigating
According to police, the boy is a Syrian who entered the country illegally. “The boy probably ended up with us in Carinthia via the Karawanken. The investigation is still ongoing,” a police officer added. The 14-year-old was traveling alone.
