During the Easter holidays, the Vienna U4 will be distributed between March 23 and April 1. Service is then only possible between Heiligenstadt and Schottenring, as well as Schwedenplatz and Hütteldorf.
Passengers can transfer to line 1 as an alternative to the route between Schottenring and Schwedenplatz, where new switches are being installed. The Wiener Linien announced on Tuesday that line 71 – and the U2Z line at night – will also be extended to Schwedenplatz.
According to the information, the U4 is the oldest metro line in the city, parts of the infrastructure are more than 100 years old and the green line has been extensively renovated since 2014. From April, further infrastructure renewal is planned on the Wiedner Hauptstrasse from Resselpark to Phorusgasse, where 2,546 meters of track will be replaced.
Construction work until November
As part of the necessary track renewal, the Wiener Linien moves the position of the tracks, allowing the entire street space to be redesigned. Construction work will start on April 2 and last until November. During the work, lines 1, 62 and the Badner Bahn cannot operate between Karlsplatz and Kliebbergasse.
As a replacement, bus line 59A will run with a higher frequency and with larger articulated buses. Line 1 runs via Südtiroler Platz – Hauptbahnhof and Prinz-Eugen-Straße. The Badner Bahn runs via Südtiroler Platz – Hauptbahnhof to Quartier Belvedere and line 62 to or from Meidling Bahnhof/Dörfelstraße.
