In another dangerous aviation incident, a Delta Air Lines Airbus plane lost parts of its engine cowling while taking off from Salt Lake City, adding itself to the ever-growing list of mid-air accidents.
After the fatal series of breakdowns that American manufacturer Boeing has suffered in recent months, an Airbus A330neo produced in Europe is now affected. As the airline announced on Tuesday (local time), the plane landed safely on Sunday after a “reported mechanical problem”.
260 passengers escaped in horror
The Airbus took off from the airport in Salt Lake City (USA) towards Amsterdam – a plate behind one of the two engines appeared to have come loose.
The 260 passengers and 13 crew escaped in shock; no one was injured in the incident, the airline emphasizes. The passengers were eventually taken to Europe on a replacement plane.
The US Federal Aviation Administration documented the incident: a panel behind the left wing engines of the machine, which was only built in 2020, came loose. This has no supporting function, but simply improves the aerodynamics of the aircraft. In particular, a mast that attached the engine to the wing was hit.
Third incident in just three months in the US
Many air travelers are beginning to feel somewhat uneasy as a result of the series of accidents, as it is now at least the third such incident in the past three months in the US alone.
As recently as early January, an Alaska Airlines plane lost a door in mid-air, and in March a United Airlines plane missed a piece of aluminum skin after landing – in both cases, Boeing manufacturers were affected.
