The leader of the Democratic Unionist Party of Northern Ireland (DUP), Jeffrey Donaldsonhas presented his dismissal after receiving “allegations” against him “of a historical nature”, although it is later revealed that he might have been accused of sexual crimes.
In addition to Donaldson, a 57-year-old woman has been charged with complicity in these alleged crimes. Both were arrested and questioned on Thursday before being formally charged later that day.

The announcement comes after Donaldson, the longest-serving MP in the Northern Ireland parliament, signaled his intention to integrate the party into the power deal with Northern Ireland’s republicans, ending two years of institutional boycott following the post- Brexit agreements.
