A fire broke out in an office of the Kittsee hospital in Burgenland on Sunday afternoon. The flames were quickly extinguished, but the rescue team cannot take patients to the clinic for the time being.
A department had to be evacuated and the patients were transferred home. No one was injured in the fire, according to the Burgenland State Safety Center. The emergency services were alerted on Sunday around 3 p.m. and arrived on the scene after about five minutes. Half an hour later, the flames were extinguished by three fire brigades.
“Pure material damage”
According to the hospital’s commercial director, Dieter Feitek, the search for the cause of the fire is still ongoing. “It is important that no one was injured and that it was purely material damage.” A room above the internal medicine department was hit. “In any case, the operations have been secured,” Feitek said.
Franz Öller, commercial director of Gesundheit Burgenland, regretted the inconvenience to patients and thanked “all those involved and helpers in the clinic, as well as the Kittsee fire brigade and the police for their exemplary responses to this fire.”
The cleaning work started immediately. No rescue transports can be sent to Kittsee for the time being.
