A 27-year-old man was reportedly attacked and slightly injured by a wild boar in the middle of the city center of Sankt Ingbert – the fifth largest city in Germany’s Saarland. Before the alleged attack, the police reportedly received several tips that the animals were hanging out there.
Police said Sunday that the wild boar said it had bitten the man on the thigh. The 27-year-old was then able to get to the hospital under his own power and was released a short time later.
Local police received numerous reports of wild boar sightings. Officers searched the entire city center but found no more brush cones, it was said. At least six animals probably roamed Sankt Ingbert.
Actually peaceful animals
Wild boars are generally considered peaceful animals that fear humans and avoid their proximity. When attacks occur, which are considered very rare, most concern is for the offspring that need to be protected. If the brush animal becomes aggressive, the fun is over. The animals weigh up to 200 kilograms, run up to 50 km/h and have razor-sharp teeth. As a rule, the pigs first attack people to overthrow them. The teeth can easily get through any pants.
