After the armed robbery of a bank in Innsbruck on Tuesday, there is still no trace of the perpetrator. It is still unclear whether the criminal took much loot. Because he lost part of the loot – at least several tens of thousands of euros – while fleeing. The researchers continue to hope for clues.
Tuesday morning 11.27 am: A masked and armed perpetrator stormed into the BTV branch on Mitterweg in Innsbruck, grabbed an employee sitting in the counter room and threatened her with a firearm. “He demanded in English that the safe be opened or that cash be handed over,” say the LKA Tirol investigators.
Safe opened, cash handed over
Other employees were also present in the branch at the time of the crime. “After the employee opened the safe with a key, she handed over the requested cash,” investigators continued. The perpetrator then fled on foot, possibly via the nearby sports field.
Banknotes lost during flight
Passers-by had already reported on Tuesday that the perpetrator had lost banknotes. Now it became known that it was a fair amount. The LKA speaks of an amount in the mid-five figures, i.e. several tens of thousands of euros! The total amount of damage – it is still unclear how much money the perpetrator was ultimately able to ‘keep’ – is not yet known.
At least the bank robber was able to go into hiding. An alarm search was unsuccessful. The employees present were unharmed. The investigation into the perpetrator is still ongoing. The approximately 1.70 meter tall, 25 to 40-year-old man was masked and wearing light-colored sweatpants, dark outerwear with light stripes at chest height and black sneakers with white soles. He also had a black shoulder bag with him.
