A car caught fire in Arnoldstein on Saturday evening. Why the emergency services arrived so quickly and were able to prevent something worse…
Large fire brigade at Arnoldstein train station: a train carriage was on fire on Saturday evening. The Arnoldstein, Seltschach-Agoritschach and Pöckau-Lind fire brigades quickly arrived on the scene. “The armory is right next to the door, there was a huge fire and we were therefore able to assess the situation very well,” the emergency services said.
It was only on Sunday morning around 4 a.m. that the fire could be turned off. A technical defect in one of the locomotive’s pantographs and subsequently in the overhead line caused the fire. Shortly afterwards the tarpaulin of the car caught fire.
Dangerous goods nearby
The wagon was loaded with wax granules. “Fortunately not with hazardous substances,” the fire brigade members breathe a sigh of relief. “By taking quick action, we were able to prevent the spread of hazardous substances to two tanks.”
The fire brigades Thörl-Maglern, Siebenbrünn-Riegersdorf, Fürnitz and Gödersdorf were also in action.
