Maximum sentence for the Viennese who killed his own three children in the Croatian capital Zagreb at the end of September 2021. Shortly before the horror act, the 57-year-old said goodbye via social media, moments later the police discovered the bodies of the three children – two boys and a girl – and the unconscious 56-year-old in the attic apartment in the Mlini district. He had tried to commit suicide. Harald Kopitz was sentenced to 50 years in prison in Zagreb on Tuesday.
The trial against the Viennese took place behind closed doors at the Zagreb court. Kopitz pleaded guilty right at the start of the trial. The verdict was handed down shortly after 2 p.m. He faces 50 years in prison – the maximum sentence in Croatia. The verdict is not final.
Murder with a psychotropic cocktail
The suspect killed his three children — seven-year-old twins, boy and girl, and a four-year-old son — with a psychotropic cocktail and then attempted suicide with antihypertensive drugs. According to an expert, the Viennese was healthy at the time of the crime.
The children had spent the weekend with their father. The parents are divorced.
“Goodbye Everyone”
Before that, around midnight, he wrote a Facebook message saying goodbye to everyone: “Hello everyone, I’m leaving you guys, I can’t take it anymore,” he posted. His partner left him because his ex-wife was mean to her and he was out of money. The suspect may have suffered from depression and had recently been in financial difficulties.
