Beer lovers had to be brave when they saw these images from Salzburg: A truck full of hundreds of crates of beer lost its load in St. Johann im Pongau on Monday evening. Thousands of bottles were broken and beer fell on the road.
The cause of the accident was probably a broken lock on the left side wall. This caused the cargo to break through the cargo area of the vehicle in a curve and thunder onto the road.
During the cleaning work, the Pinzgauer Bundesstraße (B311) was closed to all traffic for 1.5 hours. In particular, the broken glass had to be completely removed so that it no longer posed a danger to traffic.
The St. Johann Volunteer Fire Department was on duty with 22 men and five vehicles.
The hard work of the men should not go unrewarded: the Stiegl brewery wants to give the Floriani a beer-filled thank you gift. A spokesperson for the brewery said they already had a few liters in stock, referring to a similar incident that took place in Zwettl, Lower Austria, early this month.
No one was injured in either accident.
