Eureka in plain English: the skin and cap count towards the capacity of pre-packed sausages! A court in Münster decided this after the lower court banned a company from selling meat products that were a few grams too light. We explain why it is not just about the (German) sausage, but also why for many other products the full price for less content is legal.
It seems like a new law in the EU legislative theater in the context of a cucumber curvature regulation that has long been reversed, but this is currently not only explosive in Germany: during inspections in 2019, the Weights and Measures Office complained that a company has in filling parts of the packaging of the sausages are left behind, including sausages that are inedible. Random samples showed that two products contained 2.3 and 2.6 grams too little (pure) sausage.
