The lunch rush at Café Steinhauser in Dornbirn is over. The restaurant is empty. An older gentleman sits in the front and carefully reads the “Standard”. Two older women are speaking in Doarbieisch. I listen unobtrusively to this beautiful, old dialect that is becoming increasingly lost. The music is muted. The service at the counter is currently alternating. I arrived a little early for my interview appointment and asked if I could be seated in the back of the restaurant. The head waiter doesn’t care. He nods kindly. My guest, 19-year-old Ida Kinzel, enters the restaurant at exactly the minute. I wave at her.
