Legendary monument: climate activists spray paint on Stonehenge

Date:

In Britain, climate protesters have sprayed the stone monument Stonehenge with an orange substance. The group ‘Just Stop Oil’ published a video about this on Wednesday.

The recording was published on the X platform (formerly Twitter) and shows two people running towards the stone circle and spraying paint. The police have arrested two suspects.

The demand to end fossil fuels by 2030
The protest group wrote that they are calling on the next British government to sign a binding treaty to phase out fossil fuels by 2030. In the background of the video you can hear people shouting for the protesters to stop. Some are also trying to stop the two.

The scene to watch:

“We have arrested two people this afternoon following an incident at Stonehenge,” Wiltshire Police said. They are suspected of damaging the monument. The investigation was ongoing.

Stonehenge is world famous
The stone circle of Stonehenge is one of the most famous sights in Britain. The stones are precisely aligned with the position of the sun during the summer and winter solstices. It is believed that these events have been celebrated there for thousands of years. The summer solstice is celebrated there on Thursday.

The protest group further wrote Prime Minister Rishi Sunak condemned the protest as vandalism.
