Pasta eaten on piazza: fine of 4,000 euros

Date:

Enjoying delicious pasta in a typical Italian atmosphere on a piazza – that’s what four tourists had in mind who wanted to dine well in the lagoon city of Venice, but didn’t want to go to an expensive restaurant. Instead, they “borrowed” fine plates, glasses, and even chairs from the hotel’s own restaurant and ate spaghetti they’d brought with them. This is not surprising given the outrageous prices for an espresso up to 20 euros, but unfortunately it is still banned. There is a fine of up to 4000 euros.

The tourists chose a so-called vera da pozzo for the table. This is a puteal, the edge of a (covered), largely antique fountain.

Even chairs were taken from the hotel so that the meal could be enjoyed in style and in comfort not far from St. Mark’s Square. But the sumptuous dinner wasn’t just hidden from other visitors.

Before the plates were empty, a patrol car approached the party. The police officers informed the tourists about their actions, checked their papers and issued a ban. There is a risk of a fine of up to 4000 euros.
