A Swiss hobby pilot had to make a rough emergency landing in Hirt with a glider. The 50-year-old was injured and had to be taken to hospital by ambulance.
At around 13:00, the Swiss wanted to take off from Hirt for a sightseeing flight with the self-starter. But suddenly the engine of the aircraft lost power and the 50-year-old was forced to make an emergency landing of the glider in a field, after only a few meters in the air. “The pilot suffered injuries of unknown nature and was taken to the Friesach Hospital after initial medical treatment by rescue. His 46-year-old co-pilot from Germany remained unharmed,” the state police said.
There was considerable damage to the aircraft. It had to be towed back to Hirt airfield.
