Two paragliding pilot friends took off from the eastern launch site at Bischlinghöhe inwerfenweng on Monday afternoon. As soon as she took off, the 31-year-old pilot lost altitude and her paraglider fell down the Larzenbachgraben. At an altitude of about 1,280 meters above sea level, near the Ramsaualm, the German hit a treetop and then fell to the forest floor below.
Her 32-year-old companion saw the crash. He made an emergency landing with his paraglider in a meadow near the crash site and immediately alerted the emergency services. The injured sports pilot was rescued from the impassable terrain by the medical emergency helicopter “Alpin Heli 6” with the help of a rope rescue and flown to the hospital in Schwarzach with injuries of undetermined nature.
Another athlete was seriously injured in St. Michael im Lungau. The paraglider pilot probably had problems approaching the landing site. The Red Cross was on site with an ambulance and an emergency doctor.
After initial treatment on site, the seriously injured man was eventually transferred to the Schwarzach hospital by the medical emergency helicopter “Martin 1”.
