The collapse of several members of a French youth choir in the center of Vienna led to a large-scale operation by the Vienna professional rescue service on Sunday afternoon.
Because it was not known exactly what caused the youngsters to collapse, the emergency services were on the scene with 13 vehicles, according to a rescue spokesman. However, the collapse was probably caused by heat and lack of water. Three girls had to go to the hospital.
Collapse during choir practice
The choir was rehearsing on Sunday in a building near Stephansplatz. As a result, a choir singer collapsed. This also caused other young people to hyperventilate.
Probably a carbon monoxide accident
Then the large-scale operation was started. The emergency services even set up a mobile control center because it was suspected that it was a carbon monoxide accident. Of the fifteen choir members, three were eventually admitted to hospital. All the others received psychological care. After an hour and a half, the operation was terminated.
