Office charge abuse – Gambling addicted police officer fined

He is deeply remorseful and has immediately repaired the damage after his criminal past came to light. However, a police officer from Styria is not spared from appearing before the judge of the regional court in Leoben; the public prosecutor’s office of Leoben has filed a complaint. He is accused of, among other things, abuse of office and corruption. The reason: 412 tempting euros.

Payment confirmation forged
The background: This is exactly the amount that a woman received as an administrative fine from the district administration of Grieskirchen in Upper Austria. The punished wanted to pay this immediately in cash at a police station in Styria. She was received at the office by the now accused officer. He accepted the money and gave her a confirmation of payment.

A few weeks later it was discovered that this confirmation was fake. Because again a letter from the authorities arrived at the victim’s home. The fine of 412 euros had now become 445 euros because the amount had not yet been paid. The woman obviously did not accept this and went to investigate.

After the investigation began, it became clear: the police officer she thought she had paid the fine to had simply put the banknotes in his own pocket! But why?

Financial problems due to gambling addiction
It was a stupid, spontaneous action; he wanted to take advantage of the situation because he had money problems. His salary has been seized for a while because he has debts due to his gambling addiction. And his income has also dropped drastically recently. Because “he has been suspended, and of course there are disciplinary procedures,” confirms police spokesman Fritz Grundnig in response to a question from “Krone”.
