Little Patrick from Bad Hofgastein (Salzburg) was in a particularly hurry to come into the world at the beginning of July. Mother Elisabeth barely reached the hospital in Schwarzach, but gave birth to the boy on a stretcher.
It was a special mission for the two paramedics Florian Ganschitter and Christoph Grübler. On July 8 at 12:20, the two Red Cross workers were called to a heavily pregnant woman in Bad Hofgastein. On the spot, it turned out that the expectant mother was already in labor. Little Patrick made it clear that he wanted to be born very soon.
When they arrived on the scene, the rescue team immediately prepared the expectant mother Elisabeth for transport to the delivery room of the Schwarzach Clinic. During the journey, the intervals between contractions became dramatically shorter. The team pre-registered with the hospital and continued the journey from Dorfgastein with flashing lights.
“Now comes the child”
Dramatic moments soon followed in front of the hospital. “Now the baby is coming!” the expectant mother shouted as the ambulance was parking.
There was hardly time in the delivery room to put Elisabeth on the delivery bed. The rescue stretcher had to do the trick. “My wife had been suffering from a contraction in her stomach all day, even though the due date was not scheduled for another three weeks,” the now proud father said today.
Extraordinary experience
Then everything happened in quick succession. The two paramedics supported the midwife and the doctor, and shortly after, little Patrick was born on the rescue stretcher.
“In over fifteen years with the rescue service, this was definitely one of the most special and joyful missions,” says Christoph Grübler.
