The fear is all around, accompanied by anger: flames flared up again around midnight on Tuesday in one of the apartment buildings on the Sill near the old Tivoli stadium in Innsbruck. Again, an unknown fire devil had simply set a fully-filled waste paper container on fire.
“Great – who would do such a thing?” a resident said indignantly to the “Krone” the next day. The charred remains were still on the sidewalk. Another resident fears that not just a container will burn down next time.
Residents acted courageously
“The quick action of a witness, who pushed the paper container out of the house hallway, can prevent worse,” said the police. The professional fire brigade, which is stationed a stone’s throw from the affected apartment building on Adele-Obermayr-Strasse, was able to quickly extinguish the fire.
Two arson attacks registered in March
What remains is the uncertainty, because the emergency services have had to deploy several times because of similar cases. Arsons are registered in any case on 1 and 5 March. Waste paper containers were also burned down. “The damage to the ceiling of the hallway had just been repaired,” says a tenant. It is unclear whether a container fire on March 19 in nearby Resselstraße is related to the other cases. This time the damage was manageable around 1000 euros.
Police are asking for witnesses – who made suspicious sightings in the Sillufer/Adele-Obermayr-Straße area?
