The protest camp of opponents of the planned eastern bypass of Wiener Neustädter in Fischa-Au was evacuated, but the resistance to the road construction project has not been broken. Activists even wanted to rebuild their tree house.
Although construction is about to begin, opponents of the eastern bypass of Wiener Neustädter apparently hope to prevent the road construction project. Before the weekend, the executive had evacuated the protest camp in Fischa-Au near Lichtenwörth.
Heavy verbal fights
This also led to heated political statements. “The city government in Wiener Neustadt cannot act quickly enough to sacrifice living space to the asphalt for all reasons,” said Helga Krismer, state spokeswoman for the Green Party, commenting on the evacuation of the protest camp: “People cannot be evicted because easy!”
She must have been right. The next day, activists returned and tried to pull the demolished tree house back up. The police intervened again. State Councillor for Transport Udo Landbauer (FPÖ) spoke of “masked people who had entered the building illegally”. The ÖVP also criticised the approach of the project opponents (see quote).
Slogans for the town hall
But they don’t want to give up. On Sunday, hundreds of opponents of the eastern bypass gathered on Wiener Neustädter Hauptplatz, demonstrated with banners in front of the city hall and demanded: “Let, but at least the state governor should cancel this absurd project!”
