It is now clear: the large-scale attack by the Lebanese Hezbollah militia on Israel could have been much bloodier. Even before the terrorists could strike, Israel responded. Why did this not happen on October 7?
Before the Lebanese terrorist militia Hezbollah could carry out its major retaliatory strike on Sunday night, 100 Israeli fighter jets took off and destroyed more than a thousand rocket launchers in Lebanon. Intelligence information reportedly provided information about what the militia was planning.
And although Hezbollah fired 300 rockets and drones at Israel, the attack was relatively small. The “Iron Dome” was able to intercept most of the rockets. The question now is: Why could the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7 not be prevented?
Israel has learned from past mistakes
As the New York Times revealed, both Israeli intelligence and apparently the government were aware of Hamas’s attack plan a year before October 7, 2023. The roughly 40-page document, which Israeli authorities codenamed the “Jericho Wall,” details point by point the nature of the devastating invasion that resulted in the deaths of some 1,200 Israelis.
Although the document did not specify a date for the attack, it described a systematic attack. Hamas followed the plan with terrifying precision. The document was widely distributed to Israeli military and intelligence officials, but experts concluded, according to official sources, that an attack of this scale would be beyond Hamas’s capabilities.
A serious mistake, as we now know.
