The historical costume of the Freyungsgruppe, which guards the meadows during the Bleiburg Folk Festival, is getting old. The costume designer of the Friesacher Burghofspiele has recreated the new medieval, stately clothing. The “Krone” shows exclusive insights.
In 1393, Bleiburg was granted the right to hold a meadow market by Duke Albrecht. At that time, it had to take place on 15 August. Because disputes had already arisen at that time, the duke had a city judge elected. His task was to maintain public order. In 1428, the brothers Jörg and Hans Gutensteiner had the market square enlarged and an additional meadow became available. The contract – a red bag had to be returned as rent every year – still applies today.
