French justice has charged Pavel Durov with twelve charges, including complicity in the distribution of paedophile images and money laundering crimes, and has banned him from leaving French territory.
French justice has provisionally released one of the founders of Telegram, Pavel Durov, on condition of paying a bail of 5 million euros. French justice has charged him with twelve charges, placed him under police surveillance and banned him from leaving French territory.
Durov, who holds Russian, French and United Arab Emirates nationality although he lives in Dubai, has been under arrest since Saturday, when he was detained after his private plane landed at Le Bourget airport, on the outskirts of Paris.
The French legal system has accused him of crimes ranging from money laundering offences to complicity in the distribution of paedophile images, including complicity in fraud and human trafficking.
He is also accused of failing to cooperate with law enforcement by offering data and information about potential criminal actions and charges related to the operation and encryption of the messaging platform.
Following the arrest, Telegram released a statement assuring that the platform “complies with EU laws, including the Digital Services Act” and that “its moderation is within industry standards and is continuously improving.”
