An hours-long dispute with a 31-year-old Gambian in the German town of Ravensburg (Baden-Württemberg), not far from the border with Vorarlberg, ended fatally for a 25-year-old asylum seeker from Somalia. On Friday, the Gambian stabbed his opponent in front of a supermarket.
Police were first called to a fight between the Somali and the Gambian around 4:00 a.m. on Thursday morning. During the fight between the housemates, which also involved another man, the opponents injured each other with bowls, bottles and a knife. Both were taken to hospital for treatment and the police are investigating.
More than twelve hours later, the duo called the German police again. The two clashed again, with the 25-year-old slightly wounding his older opponent with a knife. The alerted police arrived with several patrols and a police dog. However, the perpetrator had already run away and could not be found during a subsequent house search.
On Friday evening, the situation escalated completely. According to initial findings, the duo probably met again shortly after 7 p.m. in front of a supermarket on Jahnstrasse, and the argument flared up again. During the argument, the 31-year-old seriously injured the 25-year-old Somali with a knife. A police patrol that happened to be on the scene intervened and temporarily arrested the Gambian. An ambulance took the seriously injured man to a clinic. The man died of his injuries there that evening.
The police are investigating
According to the police, the exact background of the dispute is still completely unclear and is currently the subject of the investigation, which has been taken over by the Ravensburg police.
