Exactly one year ago today, Florian Teichtmeister had to answer to the court for a massive amount of child pornography. The former TV commissioner and castle actor has now served half of his sentence, which he is spending in freedom. Since then, it has become quiet, but not only about Teichtmeister himself.
On September 5, 2023, he was sentenced by the jury to two years’ suspended imprisonment. What has happened in the Viennese countryside since the sensational trial is quickly described: it has become quiet.
Silence about the former actor, who had hoped to get away with a diversion after the case came to light. In this case, Teichtmeister would probably still be on the big stages, because without a criminal investigation, the details would probably never have been discovered.
But the fight against child pornography also fell silent. While politicians had declared war on the international abuse mafia in the months leading up to the trial, we hear nothing more about this and the countless underage victims during the current election campaign.
Child protection package decided
The high-profile case led to the National Council unanimously adopting a child protection package last year. In addition to renaming the crime to the cumbersome term “explicit child sexual abuse material,” the changes to the Criminal Code also include an increase in the penalty.
Damages case not yet completed
The case before the Labour and Social Court is still ongoing. The Burgtheater had sued its former figurehead for damages and had only moderate success at first instance: of the almost 100,000 euros claimed, the judge awarded the Haus am Ring only 19,231 euros – the appeal procedure is still ongoing.
During the hearing at the Labor and Social Court in April, Teichtmeister told the judge that he was looking for work. It is uncertain whether this has been successful.
